Welcome to Rooskey House B&B - the sweet, kind and colourful place to stay
From rough hills to long beaches
Rooskey House is located in the townland of Farragans on Dooey peninsula. In the south-west Donegal you are always close to a far stretched beach, soggy bog lands, kind green hills or rough rocky mountain slopes, all unspoilt, impressive and attractive. For me, Donegal is home to the warmest and most welcoming people I have met. Rooskey House is located outside the village of Lettermacaward, 5 km from dog 'n surfer paradise Dooey Beach and a 5 minute walk from the renowned and heartwarming Elliott's Bar and Nanda's Home Cooking. The best places for beer and bakes at a stone throw's distance! The B&B is open all year round.

Should you feel like spending a day at the 'home base', to rest your feet after strenuous hiking & climbing, to shelter from a rainy, blustery Donegal day or to finish a book you are reading, you are most welcome to stay in the 'lounging room' I created for this purpose. It looks out onto the garden with trees to the south of the house. The room catches the warmth of the afternoon sun... And she does shine brightly in Donegal! The room is equipped to make tea, coffee and have a snack. If you wish you can take your breakfast up, to enjoy it here too.
The bedrooms are on the first floor and are reached by the wooden stairs. The main bedroom has a double bed, and opens to the modest en-suite bathroom. The smaller bedroom has a single bed. Rooskey House sleeps 2 or max 3 people. Should you wish to bring your child and need a cot to sleep, please get in touch to discuss the possibilities. I hope you will experience the calm, colourful, welcoming atmosphere I have created, at the same time adding my personal fun, touch and taste. Furniture, paintings, photos, bed linens, decorations as well as functional objects for guests were brought together with love and eye for detail. They are a mix of Rooskey House' past and what I brought from The Netherlands.
I sincerely hope you will feel at home here and enjoy your stay.
Breakfast is my favourite meal of any day, and I love it especially when there's time and preferred company to enjoy it with. Stock up your energy for the day ahead with a wholesome continental breakfast. I serve a choice of breads, Irish and foreign cheeses, ham, fruit juice and fresh fruit, cereal and granola, with either milk or yoghurt and berry fruit compote. Fresh local eggs, boiled or scrambled with herbs, are on the menu too. I aim for seasonal products, that are grown or prepared locally, and if possible in a sustainable way: i.e. jams, relishes and Nanda's freshly baked soda bread, on the table still warm from the oven.
Donegal offers plenty of opportunities for dog owners that want to give their four legged friend a memorable stay too. Beaches, forests, marked and guided loop or long distance walks, rural roads, dirt tracks... many of these are dog friendly, as long as dogs are on the lead and you pick up after your dog. Donegal is a livestock county, so the safety of sheep and cattle should always be a dog owner's priority when out and about with a dog. In the bathing season, June 1st - Sept. 15th, dogs are not allowed on Blue Flag beaches, or only 'before & after hours'. Find more information here. Donegal has some fine locations for owners that wish to train here and to expose their gundogs to rough terrain, like mountain slopes, lakes and marshland. In autumn the Snipe come in from the north, and if you are lucky you may find Grouse. Please get in touch to discuss the wishes you have and the possibilities I can offer.
